East London is a sunny little port city in SA's Eastern Cape province, roughly half-way between Cape Town and Durban. If you're travelling as part of a gap year or are just on a tour of South Africa, it's a great place to chill out for a while & experience some comfortable, inexpensive African beach living .

Sugar Shack is spectacularly situated on a sand dune on Eastern Beach, literally within spitting distance of the beach, yet only a few minutes' walk from restaurants, pubs, clubs and supermarkets. We're also within easy walking distance of the inter-city bus station and East London's very own little Aquarium, complete with jackass penguins and performing seals!

The backpackers is in the original life-savers' building, which has a cool sun deck, big comfy TV area, (very cool) lookout tower,

and clean, comfy, rustic accommodation. Check out the surf, tanned bods and the ships going in & out the harbour, or just watch the whales & dolphins go by.
